Annealing temperatures for 201 stainless steel coils are between 1850-2000°F. Rapid cooling through the carbide precipitation range (1500 - 800 o F) is necessary to keep the carbides in solution and prevent sensitization. Type 201 cannot be hardened by heat treatment; it can only be hardened by cold work. It belongs to austenitic stainless steel and is the most commonly used raw material for the production of various "cases" and "strap bottom cover materials" in the domestic 200 series.
201 stainless steel is used for "decorative pipes", "industrial pipes", and a variety of shallow drawn products.
