304 Stainless Steel has become the most versatile and widely used stainless steel among austenitic stainless steel due to its high chromium-nickel content and low carbon content. 304 stainless steel, sometimes referred to as “18-8”, has better corrosion resistance than 301 stainless steel or 302 stainless steel, and has excellent tensile and forming characteristics. It will provide satisfactory service at high temperatures, although carbide precipitation may occur with prolonged exposure in the temperature range of 800°F-1600°F.
304L Stainless Steel is the low carbon version of 304 Stainless Steel, This low content( 0.03%) causes little difference in their performance. It helps in minimizing or eliminating the carbide precipitation, so that improve the intergranular corrosion resistance during the welding process. This made it excellent steel to be worked in both welded and severe corrosive environments.
