Q235 Carbon Steel Coil Physical and Chemical Properties

Q235 carbon steel coil is a common steel product. It has a silver-gray metallic luster, with a density of about 7.85 g/cm³. The yield strength is not less than 235 MPa, and the tensile strength is 370 – 500 MPa. It has good thermal conductivity and a moderate coefficient of thermal expansion. Physical Properties

 Q235 carbon steel coils are generally in the form of coils. The surface may vary slightly due to the production process, but it is usually relatively flat and smooth. The color is mostly silver-gray with a metallic luster. Its regular shape is convenient for storage, transportation and subsequent processing, such as cutting, stamping, bending and other operations.

Density: The density is about 7.85g/cm³, which gives it certain characteristics in terms of mass and weight. In practical applications, the mass can be easily calculated based on its volume, which is very important for aspects such as engineering design and material budget.

Thermal Propertie

Thermal Conductivity: It has good thermal conductivity, with a thermal conductivity of approximately 48 – 58W/(m·K). This means that it can effectively conduct heat and is more suitable in some application scenarios that require heat dissipation or heat exchange, such as making components for radiators.

Thermal Expansion Coefficient: The thermal expansion coefficient is relatively high, at around 10 – 13×10⁻⁶/°C. In an environment with large temperature changes, its size will change significantly. Therefore, in some high-precision structural designs, it is necessary to consider the effect of temperature on the size of Q235 carbon steel coils.

Mechanical properties

Strength: The yield strength is not less than 235MPa, and the tensile strength is between 370-500MPa, which determines its ability to withstand external forces. In building structures and mechanical manufacturing, it can withstand certain tensile, compression and bending loads to ensure the stability of the structure.

 Chemical properties

In dry air, a thin oxide film will form on the surface of Q235 carbon steel coils, which can protect the internal steel and make it have a certain corrosion resistance. However, in a humid environment, especially in an environment containing salt, acidic or alkaline substances, its corrosion resistance will decrease significantly. For example, in coastal areas or chemical environments, Q235 carbon steel coils are prone to corrosion without proper protective measures.
